CPR certification typically lasts one year for BLS and three years for Standard First Aid & CPR/AED, depending on the course. Renewing your certification ensures you stay up to date with the latest guidelines. Some organizations may require you to renew your training earlier than stated on your certificate.
CPR courses are available in different levels:
- CPR-A: Covers adult CPR and AED use.
- CPR-C: Includes CPR for adults, children, and infants.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for healthcare providers, covering advanced resuscitation techniques.

Yes. Standard First Aid & CPR certifications expire after three years, while BLS (Basic Life Support) must be renewed annually. Regular recertification ensures you are prepared for emergencies. To renew your training, your certificate must not be expired and has not been renewed. However, your BLS certification can be renewed continuously as long as it is not expired.
Healthcare professionals, including nurses, paramedics, and doctors, require BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, which includes team-based resuscitation, airway management, and high-performance CPR techniques. Please check with your college or organization for specific details on which training you require.
Some CPR theory courses can be completed online, but practical, hands-on training is required for full certification. In-person practice ensures you develop the necessary life-saving skills. Additionally, WSIB does not validate certification obtained from fully online courses with no in-person portion.
